Pupils from Grange, Cadle, Oystermouth, Whitestone, Portmead, Brynmill, and Blaenymaes Primary Schools, along with their feeder secondary school Bishop Gore, have been making a splash in science thanks to an inspiring project organised through Romodels.
The project, focused on Sam, a Marine Biologist, has given pupils the chance to explore what it’s like to work in the fascinating world of marine science. Sam’s passion for the ocean and her work as a marine ecologist—investigating how food webs function and why protecting habitats is vital—has inspired young learners to think about how they can play a part in protecting our planet. Through real-life case studies from Jamaica and Wales, pupils have discovered how ecosystems can be threatened and what can be done to restore balance.
As well as igniting curiosity in science and environmental careers, the project has also helped support pupils with the transition from primary to secondary school. Working alongside staff and students from Bishop Gore has helped younger pupils build confidence, make connections, and feel excited about the next step in their education.
The project concluded with a celebration event at Bishop Gore School, where each primary school proudly showcased their research and creative work. It was a fantastic opportunity to share learning, celebrate teamwork, and recognise how young people across the cluster are making waves for the future.
