Learners from Pontarddulais Comprehensive School, Pentrehafod School, Cefn Hengoed Community School and Ysgol Calon Lan recently took part in an exciting go-kart workshop designed to bring careers in construction, engineering and vehicle mechanics to life.
The hands-on experience gave learners the opportunity to build practical skills while discovering the wide range of career opportunities available within the automotive and construction industries. Working alongside experienced professionals, students explored how mechanical systems work, learned about vehicle maintenance and gained an insight into the teamwork, problem-solving and technical skills that employers value.
The workshop formed part of Swansea’s commitment to Careers and Work-Related Experiences (CWRE), helping learners make meaningful connections between what they learn in the classroom and the world of work. By engaging directly with industry experts, students developed a greater understanding of the qualifications, pathways and opportunities available to them after school.
Feedback from both learners and staff was overwhelmingly positive, with students describing the workshop as enjoyable, engaging and inspiring. Many commented that the practical activities increased their confidence and sparked an interest in careers they had not previously considered.
Experiences such as these play a vital role in broadening aspirations, developing employability skills and helping young people make informed decisions about their future education, training and career pathways.
