Gower College Swansea recently welcomed pupils from Bishop Vaughan Catholic School and Pentrehafod School as part of its inspiring Tree of Hope celebration, held over two consecutive Fridays in May. The event gave learners an opportunity to explore careers connected to the outdoors, horticulture and environmental sustainability while taking part in a meaningful community project.
The centrepiece of the celebration was the planting of a special Sycamore Gap sapling, awarded to the college by the National Trust as one of only 49 Trees of Hope across the UK. The young tree was grown from the seed of the famous Sycamore Gap tree that once stood beside Hadrian’s Wall and has become a national symbol of resilience and renewal.
Hosted at the college’s Green Hwb Gwyrdd and Heritage Orchard, the event brought together staff, students and members of the local community to celebrate growth, connection and environmental awareness. Landscaping students will now care for the sapling as it continues to grow, creating a lasting legacy of hope for future generations.
