Year 11 girls at Ysgol Gymraeg Bryntawe were given an inspiring insight into careers in construction and civil engineering during a special Maths session with Laing O’Rourke, thanks to Careers Wales
Lilly, a Cardiff University student currently completing a work placement with Laing O’Rourke, joined Paula to speak to learners about the construction industry, their experiences and the wide range of opportunities available.
Lilly was particularly keen to use the session to encourage more girls to consider careers in construction and engineering, helping learners see that these industries offer far more possibilities than they may first imagine.
By linking maths learning to real-life careers and hearing directly from women working and developing their careers in the sector, the girls were able to see new possibilities for their own futures.
The short but impactful session left learners feeling empowered, with their eyes opened to careers they may not previously have considered.
