Three Year 10 learners from Morriston Comprehensive School, Pontarddulais Comprehensive School, and Dylan Thomas School took part in an exciting site visit to Y Storfa in Swansea, hosted by Kier Construction.
The visit offered a first-hand look at Y Storfa – a major new city centre community hub being developed in the former BHS building on Oxford Street. Set to become a central space for digital inclusion, well-being, and community cohesion, Y Storfa will house services such as the city’s main library, West Glamorgan Archive Service, Citizens Advice, Careers Wales, and more.
During the visit, learners met with a Kier apprentice who shared their personal route into the construction industry. A guided tour of the site gave students an insight into sustainable building practices and the wider regeneration plans for Swansea’s city centre, part of a £1 billion programme.
The day also included a trip to UWTSD’s Immersive Learning Environment, where students explored how cutting-edge technologies like virtual reality are shaping the future of construction.
The visit provided an inspiring introduction to the industry, highlighting how modern construction not only builds structures—but also builds stronger, more connected communities like Y Storfa aims to do.
