Year 9 pupils from Olchfa School recently took part in the Future Advocates Work Focus Challenge, linked to the Languages, Literacy and Communication Area of Learning and Experience (AoLE). Huge thanks to Lucy Leader, Senior Barrister at Angel Chambers and Ruth Davies iDevelop Lead from Olchfa School, who created the challenge in partnership with Careers Wales.
As part of the challenge, pupils carried out extensive research to explore why people from ethnic minority backgrounds are underrepresented in the legal profession, particularly as barristers. They investigated the barriers that may discourage applications, considered the importance of improving diversity within chambers and presented their findings to representatives from Angel Chambers. Building on their research, pupils also produced a creative social media reel designed to encourage greater diversity within the profession. The reel was so successful that it will be featured on Angel Chambers’ official website, giving pupils the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to promoting inclusion within the legal profession.
