Penllergaer Primary School brews success with pupil-run ‘Caffi Pawb’

Penllergaer Primary School is serving up more than just coffee with the launch of its inspiring new community café, Caffi Pawb, a fully pupil-run initiative designed to build real-world workplace skills. Run entirely by pupils, the café provides a hands-on learning environment where children take on a variety of roles, from welcoming customers to handling money and preparing orders.

Through their work at Caffi Pawb, pupils are developing essential life and employability skills. Tasks such as adding totals, giving correct change, and managing transactions help strengthen numeracy, while interacting with customers boosts confidence, communication, and teamwork. The children are also learning the importance of good manners, kindness, and working collaboratively—qualities highly valued in any workplace.

The café is more than just a school project; it is a thriving community hub where all profits are reinvested to support the school. Visitors are greeted with enthusiasm and professionalism, showcasing the pupils’ dedication and pride in their work.

By blending education with real-life experience, Penllergaer Primary School is equipping its learners with the tools they need for future success – proving that it’s never too early to start building workplace-ready skills.
