Penyrheol Comprehensive School pupils build skills for the future with Kier Construction and AtkinsRéalis

A group of enthusiastic Year 10 and 11 learners from Penyrheol Comprehensive School recently took part in an inspiring week of work experience with Kier Construction at the Gorseinon campus development of Gower College Swansea. All students share a keen interest in construction, making this hands-on opportunity especially valuable.

Based on-site in Gorseinon, learners gained real insight into the fast-paced world of construction. They explored how large-scale projects are managed and observed professionals at work, bringing classroom learning to life. A highlight of the week was a Net Zero challenge delivered by CITB, where students tackled sustainability issues facing the industry.

The group also engaged with experts from AtkinsRéalis, learning about the wide range of engineering careers available. Another standout experience was a day spent in the immersive classroom at University of Wales Trinity Saint David, where cutting-edge technology enhanced their understanding of construction and design.

This experience not only built practical knowledge but also inspired future career ambitions, giving students a clear view of pathways into the construction industry.
