Penyrheol Comprehensive School visit Down to Earth to learn about sustainable building techniques

Young Dragons recently gave Year 10 & 11 pupils from Penyrheol Comprehensive School the chance to visit the inspiring Down to Earth Project in Swansea – and it didn’t disappoint.

Pupils explored the site, learning how sustainable buildings are created using natural materials like timber, clay and straw, and how eco-friendly construction can reduce environmental impact while creating strong, beautiful spaces.

The day was packed with energy – from team-building challenges to getting hands-on preparing timber for a real roundhouse build.

And the impact goes far beyond the practical skills…

  • Following the session, pupils  reported a boost social inclusion and self-confidence, while reducing anxiety and depression.
  • Feelings of boredom dropped by 43% as the pupils engaged in meaningful, hands-on activities.

The Down to Earth Project is all about reconnecting people with nature, building confidence, and developing skills for a more sustainable future – and our pupils truly embraced every moment.

A fantastic experience that brought learning to life and showed what’s possible when sustainability meets teamwork.
