Innovation, creativity and teamwork were on full display as pupils from across Swansea took part in the DVLA Code Challenge 2026, celebrating the incredible coding and digital skills of young people from primary and secondary schools across the city. Hosted by the DVLA at its Richard Ley Development Centre in Swansea, the competition gave learners the opportunity to design and build their own computer games while developing problem-solving, communication and programming skills.
Having a world-leading digital organisation like the DVLA on our doorstep provides an invaluable opportunity for Swansea’s young people. Events such as the Code Challenge help learners understand the exciting range of careers available in digital technology, software development, cyber security and data science, while showing how the skills they develop in school can lead to rewarding careers close to home.
Congratulations to every primary and secondary school from Swansea that entered this year’s competition. The enthusiasm, innovation and teamwork demonstrated by all participants were truly inspiring and highlighted the wealth of digital talent across our schools.
A special well done goes to Parklands Primary School, who were crowned winners of the 7–11 age category, and to Gowerton School, who achieved an outstanding second place in the 11–16 category.
It was a fantastic day that celebrated innovation, inspired future careers and showcased the exceptional talent of young people across Swansea.
