The Swansea Pledge is officially launched

Around 100 local businesses have pledged to help inspire young people’s future career paths through real-world experiences in a new initiative launched by Swansea Council at Y Storfa.

The Swansea Pledge brings together employers, schools and education leaders to link classroom learning with workplace opportunities. Participating companies have committed to offering work placements, internships, industry talks, masterclasses and employer-led workshops designed to give pupils insight into the world of work.

At the launch event, pupils from local schools were able to explore career pathways and take part in hands-on activities, highlighting how business-school partnerships are helping learners connect academic studies to future jobs.

Swansea Council Leader Rob Stewart underlined the aim of the scheme: to equip young people with the skills they need and encourage them to stay engaged in education and training for longer. The initiative also helps businesses spot emerging talent and address local skills gaps.

Examples of engagement include STEM challenges, enterprise workshops, and construction placements, while panel discussions at the launch showcased successful collaborations. Businesses interested in joining the pledge can find more information through Swansea Council’s career support channels.
