Pupils at Whitestone Primary School have been developing their understanding of the world of work through imaginative and engaging role-play activities linked to Careers and Work-Related Education (CWRE).
Last term, Year 2 learners stepped into the construction industry, taking on the roles of builders, site managers and construction workers. Equipped with hard hats and plenty of enthusiasm, they explored the skills, teamwork and communication needed to work successfully on a construction site. Through discussions and collaborative activities, pupils gained a valuable insight into the wide range of careers available within the sector.
Meanwhile, Owl Class transformed their classroom into the Whitestone Medical Centre, where pupils took on the roles of doctors, nurses, receptionists and patients. The activity enabled children to practise communication and problem-solving skills while developing their understanding of healthcare professions. From booking appointments to treating patients, learners demonstrated creativity, confidence and empathy throughout their role-play experiences.
These activities highlight the importance of learning through play in helping young children explore future career opportunities. By introducing learners to different professions at an early age, Whitestone Primary School is helping to raise aspirations, broaden horizons and build the skills that will support pupils throughout their education and beyond.
