Young entrepreneurs bring learning to life in Swansea city centre

Hundreds of young entrepreneurs from primary schools across Swansea will be setting up shop in the city centre tomorrow as part of the Swansea Primary School Enterprise Challenge 2025.

Around 30 schools are taking part in this exciting annual event, which culminates in a vibrant pop-up market taking place from 9.00am to 2.30pm outside the old Iceland store near St Mary’s Church. If you’re in the city centre, be sure to stop by and show your support!

A wide range of goods, food, and other handmade items will be on sale all created and marketed by the pupils themselves. From sandwich board wearers to first-class adverts, the event showcases brilliant creativity and entrepreneurial spirit across a number of Areas of Learning.

The initiative is led by Alison Williams in Craigfelen Primary School and begins with professional development for teachers, delivered by Professor Andy Penaluna, who equips them to foster creativity and innovation in the classroom. Pupils then take the lead, designing and producing their own products to sell.

This project isn’t just about business, it’s about life. It offers an authentic and meaningful learning experience that fully aligns with the Curriculum for Wales, helping to develop essential skills such as problem-solving, collaboration, and communication.

When asked, pupils said they were excited to learn this way, and it was clear that learning had truly come to life. Every learner seemed to value the experience, and both teachers and parents were amazed by the confidence and skill the children demonstrated, many were genuinely surprised by the depth of creativity and capability on show.

It’s a powerful reminder of what young people can achieve when given the chance to lead their own learning.
